• Gift your baby a beautiful birthplace

The Joseph Fraser Memorial Hospital was founded in 1923 by the Joseph Fraser Memorial Trust as a nonprofit hospital in honour of Joseph Fraser who was an extremely successful and respected planter in Sri Lanka from 1872 to 1913. His wife Chrissie Fraser enlisted the planters association of Ceylon to build a suitable memorial to commemorate the life of her late husband for which she would provide the funding. Thus the Joseph Fraser Memorial Hospital came into existence and opened its doors to the European community in 1923.

It was opened to the general public in 1977 and now, over 90 years since its inception, continues to serve the citizens of Sri Lanka.

The Fraser has been a woman and children’s hospital since the mid 90’s. The calm and serene surroundings are best suited for this purpose and it can be safely said that no other hospital in Sri Lanka offers such a beautiful setting to bring a child into the world.

The Fraser has now been expanded with 03 new labour rooms, 02 new operating theatres, High Dependency Unit (HDU) and Neonatal Special Care Baby Care Unit (SCBU). The Fraser also has 06 new luxury rooms and a luxury suite all equipped with luxury beds, cable TV, fridge and phone. All rooms are air-conditioned and boast more interior space than any other hospital. The suite and one super luxury room have private rear verandahs opening out to individual rear gardens.

For anybody who wishes to bring their baby into this world in the most beautiful surroundings in Sri Lanka, this is the place.

My son was born here in 1969 and has just retired.from a pharmaceutical co. To our delight his daughter is hoping to go to Sri Lanka to continue her medical career. Hoping she will find time to tell us and we hope she will tell us about the places she visits.
    Regards Rhodes
